FALL/WINTER 2011 NAIL POLISH

Muchas veces nos olvidamos que el esmalte de uñas es más que un color extra en nuestro outfit. Es un accesorio importantísimo y puede ser la diferencia en nuestro atuendo. Por ejemplo,  puedes usarlo para acentuar más los colores que llevas en tu ropa.  Dice muchísimo de la personalidad de cada una y para todas hay opciones: si eres más atrevida probablemente usas colores brillantes o más llamativos y, si eres un poco más reservada, colores más naturales.

Para esta temporada, por acercarse más a las fiestas, los colores, por lo general, son más cálidos y con mucho brillo.  Las tendencias para el otoño/ invierno de este año son los ya tan sonados colores metálicos en sus diversas tonalidades (plateado, dorado, verde, azul, morado) y también colores como el ya clásico color taupé (que es mi favorito), el  menta, royal blue, ocres, morados, etc... Y para ser un poco más específica, aquí les dejo unos ejemplos de esos colores, para que poco a poco nos vayamos preparando para esta temporada. 

 We often forget that nail polish is more than an extra color in our outfit. It's an important accessory which can make a difference in our attire. For example, you can use it to accentuate the colors you are wearing at any given time. It really says a lot of someone's personality and there are options for everyone: if you're a little more daring, bright colors are probably your thing and if you're a little more reserved, you'll probably go for more natural tones.

For this season, being so close to the holidays, the colors are generally a bit warmer and brighter. The trends for this year's fall/winter are the notorious metallic colors in all of the different tones (silver, gold, green, blue, purple) and also colors like the classic taupe (my favorite), mint, royal blue, ocre, purple, etc... And to be a little more specific, here a few examples of these colors so we can start preparing for the upcoming season.

ORANGE & BLUE

Ya anteriormente les había contado que me gusta mucho diseñar mi propia ropa. Este vestido fue diseñado por mí, lo tenía ya en mente y afortunadamente encontré la tela exactamente como la estaba buscando: una tela que fuera super fresca, cómoda y con colores vivos, pero sin caer en lo saturado. Luego, le agregué el blazer anaranjado que es de Stradivarius. Si les contara el lío que armé para poder conseguirlo les diera mucha risa ya que en el Stradivarius de mi país no habían de mi talla. Y para crear una especie de colorblock entre los accesorios (blazer, collar, cartera y zapatos), escogí estos zapatos azules de Steve Madden, la cartera de Zara y el collar de Bershka que ya me lo habían visto aquí. 

Me parece que la combinación de todos esos colores hace que el outfit se vea súper divertido y de esta forma hice resaltar los colores azules y anaranjados del vestido. Creo que el estilo del vestido es perfecto para casi cualquier clima ya que si te da calor solo te quitas el blazer y listo, o hasta lo puedes llegar a usar como una salida de baño para el mar.

I had told you before that I love to design my own wardrobe from time to time. I had this dress in mind and I fortunately found the exact fabric I was looking for: super fresh, comfortable and with bright colors, without being over-saturated.  Afterwards, I decided to throw in an orange blazer from Stradivarius. If you only knew the fuss I made in order to get it since in the local Stradivarius they didn't have my size. And, to create a sort of colorblock between accessories (blazer, collar, purse and shoes), I chose these blue shoes from Steve Madden, a Zara bag and a Bershka collar which you saw me wear before.  

I think the combination of all these colors gives the outfit a super fun look and it brings out the color blue and orange in the dress. I feel the style of the dress is perfect for almost any type of weather. If you're hot just take off the blazer and you're ready. You can even wear it in the beach.

 Definitivamente Milán nos ha dejado encantadas con tanto color, texturas y diseños. Y en Our Favorite Style, quisimos mostrarles cuales son nuestros 3 diseños favoritos de cada uno de los grandes diseñadores que presentaron sus colecciones en el Milán Fashion Week. Pudimos ver telas étnicas de seda estampada como D&G y Etro. Telas transparentes y diseños minimalistas como Fendi y Max Mara. Faldas a la cintura con paletones y tipo pencil skirts como Prada y Versace. Encajes y maxi dresses con muchos vuelos y lindos estampados como los de Pucci. Vestidos cortos con faldas abombadas, estampados de frutas y colores pasteles como Moschino. Diseños con inspiración en los 60´s como Jil Sander. Tendencias metálicas, sake prints y maxi dresses de chifón como Just Cavalli. Salvatore Ferragamo con sus jumpsuits, maxi dresses de chifón y estampados étnicos y tropicales. Roberto Cavalli con blazers y faldas metálicas paletoneadas. Y por supuesto, Giorgio Armani con diseños sumamente elegantes, sombreros y pantalones con abertura al talón y telas brillantes.

Milan has definitely left us delighted with so much color, textures and designs.  And, in Our Favorite Style, we wanted to show you our favorite 3 designs for each of the big designers presenting their collections at the Milan Fashion Week. 

We could see ethnic fabrics of printed silk like D&G and Etro.  Transparent fabrics and minimalist designs like Fendi and Max Mara.  High-waisted pleated skirts and pencil skirts like Prada and Versace.  Lace and maxi dresses with lots of ruffles and beautiful prints like Pucci. Short dresses with puffy skirts, fruit prints and pastel colors like Moschino.  Designs inspired in the 60's like Jil Sander. Metallic trends, sake prints and chiffon maxi dresses like Just Cavalli. Salvatore Ferragamo with jumpsuits, chiffon maxi dresses and ethnic and tropical prints. Roberto Cavalli with blazers and metallic pleated skirts. And, of course, Giorgio Armani with extremely elegant designs, hats and pants with open heal and bright fabrics.

RED DRESS: SIX LOOKS

OUTFIT#1

Esta vez quise arriesgarme un poquito al formar outfits utilizando el color ROJO. Me parece que aunque es un color arriesgado, es muy fácil sacarle provecho y quise utilizar un vestido rojo clásico para poder ejemplificarles mejor. 

En el caso del outfit #1 pensarán que estoy loca porque he puesto una falda negra. Ya anteriormente he utilizado el truco de ponerles una falda encima a vestidos pegados para que la parte de arriba del vestido parezca una camisa. 

El outfit #2, me parece que es perfecto para ir a trabajar, y ya si quieres salir por la noche solo te quitas el saco y le agregas un collar y te queda perfecto. 

El outfit #3 lo podríamos utilizar para ir a trabajar o talvez para un almuerzo por la tarde. 

El outfit #4 lo hice pensando en el color-comb que Sarah Jessica Parker utilizó recientemente. Me parece que el rosado y el rojo van de maravilla juntos, y utilicé exactamente el mismo truco que en el outfit #1. El outfit #5 es un poco más atrevido ya que lo combiné con una chaqueta de cuero negra y unos gladiadores que se verían increibles para ir una noche a un bar. 

Y por último el outfit #6, que es uno de mis favoritos,  es un look un poco más relajado. Le agregé al vestidito una camisa de botones blanca que, para hacerla un poco más chic, la podrías usar dejando la camisa blanca desabotonada y amarrándola a la cintura.


Espero les haya gustado y recuerden que cualquier prenda que tengan se puede usar de mil formas, solo basta atreverte y usar un poco la imaginación.

This time I wanted to go out on the limb and create some outfit combinations using the color RED.  It seems to me that, even though the color is a bit risky, it's easy to take advantage of it. I decided to use a classic red dress to illustrate this point. 

On outfit #1, you might think I'm crazy for putting in a black pencil skirt.  I've previously used the trick of putting a skirt on top of tight-fit dresses so that the upper part of the dress can act as a blouse. 

Outfit #2 I think is perfect for work and if you feel like going out at night, you just have to take off the jacket, add a collar and you'll look great. 

Outfit #3 you could used also for work or maybe for afternoon lunch.

As for outfit #4, I did it with the color comb Sarah Jessica Parker used recently.  For me, the red and pink go great together and I used the exact same trick I used with outfit #1.

Outfit #5 is a bit more daring since I combined it with a black leather jacket and gladiators which would look incredible for a night out on a bar.

Finally, outfit #6, which is one of my favorites, is a more relaxed look. To the dress I added a white blouse with buttons that, in order to make it a little more chic, you could wear leaving the blouse unbuttoned and tying it around your waist.

I hope you liked the outfits and remember that any garment can be used in a million different ways. It's just a matter of taking a risk and use a little imagination.

METALLIC SKIRT

Como ya se habrán podido dar cuenta, la tendencia metálica me ha encantado y creo que apunta a ser mi favorita de esta temporada.  La falda es de Zara de la nueva temporada y, como quería que fuera el centro de atención, la use con una camisa blanca H&M que ya me la han visto aquí. Los zapatos son de Bershka, similares a unos que Zara tuvo la temporada pasada y que me encantaron pero que, lastimosamente, al Zara de mí país nunca llegaron =(. La cartera es de Steve Madden y me gustó mucho porque le imprime a cualquier outfit la tendencia de estampado de leopardo y es perfecta para utilizarla de noche. 

Quiero darles las gracias por visitar el blog. En los últimos días hemos incrementado muchísimo las visitas y eso nos llena de mucha alegria =).

As you may have realized already, I have loved the metallic trend and its turning out to be my favorite of the season. The skirt is from Zara's new season and, since I wanted it to be the center of focus, I combined it with a white H&M blouse which you've seen me wear before.  The shoes are from Bershka, similar to ones that Zara had last season which I loved, but unfortunately, they  never came in to my local Zara =(.  The bag is from Steve Madden and I really like it because it adds that leopard trend to any outfit and its perfect for going out at night.

 I want to thank you for visiting the blog. In the last few days we have had a lot more visits and that makes us happy =).

DENIM SQUARED

Ya desde hace días quería usar esta combinación: el denim sobre denim. Me parece que es super casual y cómodo a la vez. Hay que tomar en cuenta que, para que se vea bien, una de las prendas denim debe ser más clara que la otra. A mi criterio, la más oscura debe ir abajo y la clara arriba. Los jeans acampanados son de Bershka de ya hace algunas temporadas atrás pero a la vez, está muy actual ya que esta tendencia de jeans viene pegando fuerte para el otoño. La camisa denim la compre en Stradivarius y desde que la vi supe perfectamente como la quería usar. Los zapatos son plataformas de la nueva temporada de Steve Madden que me parecieron perfectas para darle el look que quería.

I've been wanting to wear this combination for a few days: denim over denim. I think it's super casual and comfortable at the same time. You must consider that in order for it to look good, one of the garments should be a lighter tone than the other. In my opinion, the darkest should go in the bottom and the clearer tone in the top.  These flared jeans are from Bershka from a few seasons back, and yet, very much in style coming into the fall season. The denim shirt I got in Stradivarius and from the moment I saw it I knew exactly how I wanted to combine it. The shoes are Steve Madden pumps from the latest season which seemed just perfect to complement the look I was going for.

THE METAL EFFECT: GUCCI SPRING 2012

Este post esta inspirado en el que para mi ha sido uno de los mejores desfiles de La Semana de la Moda de Milán, proponiendo el metallic trend al máximo. Se pudo apreciar la mezcla de colores metálicos en tonos dorados, negros, y plateados. En otras prendas mezclado con el verde y el anaranjado. De igual forma, proponiendo ropa con más movimiento y transparencias,  utilizando telas como el chiffon.

Les dejo un par de opciones para que se inspiren un poco y se atrevan a usar esta tendencia. La principal recomendación es mantener accesorios simples o no usar ninguno para que los que se roben el show sean los colores brillantes de tu outfit!

This post is inspired on what for me has been one of the best shows in Fashion Week Milan, proposing the metallic trend to the fullest. We were able to see great combination of metallic colors in shades of gold, black and silver. Other outfits had mixes of green and orange. The proposed style was clothing with lost of movement and transparencies with the use of fabrics like chiffon.


I leave you with a couple of options to help inspire this trend a bit. The main thing to remember is to keep the accessories simple or maybe even avoid them completely so that the real show stoppers are those bright colors in your outfit.

GOSSIP GIRLS: A PERFECT STYLE

El próximo 29 de septiembre comienza la nueva temporada de Gossip Girls y en Our Favorite Style queremos hablar un poquito del estilo de las dos chicas principales.

• Blair Waldorf (Leighton Meester) : su estilo es un poco más preppy, utlizando bandas en la cabeza, vestiditos floreados, medias cuadriculadas o con algún diseño, y ropa de encaje.
• Serena Van der Woodsen (Blake Lively): un estilo más sexy utilizando mini dresses, shorts, necklaces super llamativas, lentejuelas y ropa muy pegada al cuerpo.

Lo que más me gusta de ellas es que combinan varios tipos de telas y figuras en un mismo outfit. Algunos podrían pensar que talvez sus vestuarios son un poco cargados, y talvez sea verdad, pero sólo ellas saben cómo combinar su ropa para que se vea súper chic. No es raro ver a Blair usando un vestido de seda y encaje, con medias con diseños, o faldas y blusas con diferentes estampados. Y a Serena con faldas mini de lentejuelas con un blazer de lino, o blazer brillante con pantalones de seda. Y algo que no les puede faltar a ninguna de las dos son los pumps. Repesentan cien por ciento el estilo neoyorquino. Ambas se ven siempre super glamorosas, desde la ropa que se ponen para dormir, hasta la que usan para trabajar, son unas trendsetters por naturaleza.

With the new season of Gossip Girls less than a week away (September 29), we at Our Favorite Style want to talk a little about the main female characters' style.

• Blair Waldorf (Leightron Meester): her style is a little more preppy, using headbands, flowered dresses, checkered stalkings (or with some other design), and lace clothing. 
• Serena Van der Woodsen (Blake Lively): a more sexy style using mini dresses, shorts, flashy necklaces, sequin and tight-fit clothing.

What I like most about them is how they combine several types of fabrics and figures in one outfit. Some may think that their outfits are a tad crowded, and that may even be true, but only they know how to combine their clothes to look super chic. It's not uncommon to see Blair wearing a silk and lace dress and along with stalkings with some sort of design, or skirts and blouses with different prints.  As for Serena, we may see her with sequin mini skirts with a linen blazer or, on the other hand, a bright blazer with silk pants. And, of course, you'll probably see them both in pumps. They represent one hundred percent New York style. They always look very glamorous, from the clothes they wear to sleep to the ones they wear to work, the are definitely trendsetters by nature.

Rose & Dots

 Desde el Jueves hasta el Domingo tuve cuatro largos días de vacaciones por la festividad de la Independencia de mi país y me sirvieron de mucho porque de verdad que necesitaba una escapadita de la rutina del trabajo.  Estas fotos son de la tarde del Sábado que decidimos ir a almorzar a un sports bar y a ver un partido (ya poco a poco les iré contando otra de mis grandes pasiones: el fútbol ). Como estaba haciendo un poco de calor y a la vez, con amenazas de lluvia, quise utilizar algo fresco. La camisa es de Stradivarius de la temporada pasada y la combiné con jeans (por si llovía) y con flats Tory Burch. Me gustó mucho eso de meter sólo la parte de adelante de la camisa, creo que se ve un poco diferente.

This week we had a long weekend (from Thursday to Sunday) due to my country's independence which was just perfect for me because I definitely needed a getaway from the normal day-to-day routine. These pictures were taken on Saturday when we decided to go for lunch to a sports bar to see a game (little by little I'll be telling you about one of my other great passions: soccer).  Since it was a little hot, and yet there was a chance of rain, I chose to wear something fresh.  The shirt is from Stradivarius, from last season, and I combined it with some jeans (just in case in rained) an Tory Burch flats. I liked the idea of tucking in the shirt only from the front, I think it's a little different.

NEW ARRIVALS!!!

Quiero compartir con ustedes mis nuevas compras de accesorios para esta temporada. La cartera metalizada de Stradivarius me encantó porque la puedo usar tanto con la cadena, como sin ella. El cincho de cadena es de Zara. El collar y la pulsera "cuff" las encontré en una tienda Vintage. 

I want to share with you my latest accessory purchases for this season. The metalized purse is from Stradivarius and I loved it because I can use it with or without the chain. The chain belt is from Zara. As for the collar and cuff bracelet, I found these at a vintage store. 

CHERRY RED

Quisiera darles un poco de lo que me inspira. El uso de color creo que nunca puede ser mucho si se usa lo suficiente e impacta el ojo. Total, lo que importa es verte impresionante y ser tú. Qué mejor ejemplo que Cherry Red!

I would love to give you all a sneak peek of what inspires me. I think color can never be too much if you use it enough and meets the eye. After all, what really matters is looking stunning and always being you. Nothing better than cherry red!

COLORBLOCK TRANSITION: SUMMER TO FALL

Como ya todas sabemos, el colorblock ha sido super trendy todo el verano y, por suerte, este continúa para el otoño. En lo personal me encanta esta tendencia y sin duda alguna ha sido mi favorita. Por lo que veo el colorblocking va para largo porque también en el NY Fashion Week los diseñadores continúan usándolo para la primavera/ verano del próximo año.

En el verano pudimos ver colores fuertes como el verde, rosado, azul, anaranjado, amarillo, etc.... Y ya para la temporada Otoño/Invierno los colores son mas cálidos: café, mostaza, anaranjado, gris, negro, rosado y azul.
 

Muchas se podrán preguntar: ¿cómo puedo usarlo? Pues aquí les dejo unos consejos:

• Es recomendable usar colores que sean opuestos en el círculo cromático.
• CERO estampado en los colores que van a formar los bloques porque, como su palabra lo dice, lo que se pretende es hacer BLOQUES de colores y, ponerle cualquier tipo de estampado sería quitarle la atención a éstos.
• Ten en cuenta que debes utilizar colores que tengan la misma intensidad como el hot pink y el royal blue por ejemplo.
• Si estás usando 3 o más colores, por favor mantén los accesorios en colores neutrales. De ésta manera podremos balancear los colores fuertes y centrar la atención en lo que estamos buscando: el colorblock.

Que les ha parecido esta tendencia? La seguirán usando para las próximas temporadas?

As you all know, colorblock has been super trendy all summer long and, fortunately, it continues into the fall season.  Personally, I love this trend and it has been without a doubt my favorite. From what I can gather, colorblocking is in it for the long run as we have been able to see at the NY Fashion Week where designers keep using it for next year’s spring/summer season.

This summer we could see bright colors like green, pink, blue, orange, yellow, etc…. And now for the Fall/Winter season the colors are warmer and not so bright: brown, mustard, orange, grey, black, pink and blue.

Many of you may wonder how to apply a colorblock.  Here are a few tips:

• It’s recommendable to use opposing colors on the chromatic circle.
• DO NOT use prints with the colors forming the colorblock because, the whole idea is to create blocks of colors and any type of print would take attention away from them.
• Keep in mind to use colors with the same intensity such as hot pink and royal blue, for example.
• If you are using 3 or more color, please make sure the accessories are of neutral color. This way, we can balance out the bright colors and center the attention on what we are looking for: the colorblock.

SUNNY WHITE

Como se podrán dar cuenta me encanta la playa y estando tan cerquita sería pecado no ir con frecuencia. Así que verán muchísimas fotos con arena y sol =). Estas son de unas semanas atrás y es la primer sesión de fotos en la playa que hice pensando en el blog. Me encantan los outfits blancos para la playa, pero decidí usar este en particular porque quería enfocar la atención en el collar.

As you might notice, I love the beach! And being so close to it, it would be a sin not to go every chance I get. So you'll probably see a lot of pictures with sand and sun =)  These photos are from a few weeks ago and it's from my first photo session with this blog in mind. I love white outfits for the beach. I decided on this one in particular because I wanted to focus the attention on the collar.

HAPPINESS SHOWS IN ANIMAL BLUE PRINT!

Seguimos de fiesta! El sábado fue mi cumpleaños y como soy una persona de tarde, me gusta siempre hacer los eventos a esta hora. Lo mejor de todo son los vestidos y zapatos que se pueden usar. Ahorita el animal print está de moda, pero conmigo todavía no termina de congeniar. Soy más de mar que de glamour, pero este vestido lo vi en Zara hace como un mes y me encantó el look que le da el estampado en azul. La parte de atras de algodón le da un look más cómodo (aun no sé si es vestido o camisa) pero no importa, me encanta junto con mis zapatos BAKERS favoritos. La perfecta combinación para parrandear mi soltería cumpleañera!

So the party is on! My birthday party was on Saturday afternoon. I love to party at noon time, most of all because of the look you can choose at that time. Animal print is a trend right now,  but it doesn't really go with me. My style is not that glam but I saw this dress at Zara and I loved it. The blue print with the blue cotton back gave me the level of comfort and flow that I was looking for. I really don’t know yet if this was a dress or a shirt, but I really don’t care because it goes beautifully with my favorite Bakers shoes, and it’s a perfect combination to party my singleness off!

A LIFE IN STRIPES

Así como mencionamos en twitter, el sábado fue el cumple de María José y lo celebramos por la tarde en un bar de nuestra ciudad. Al ser de tarde decidí usar un vestidito menos formal y este lo encontré hace unos días en Pull & Bear. Me encantó porque llevaba rayas que siguen super de moda y un cinchito que tambien hace que se defina más la cintura al tener revuelitos la parte de adelante. Y, por supuesto, quería estrenar mis nuevos zapatos Jessica Simpson Prinnce que, aunque no lo crean, son súper cómodos. Recuerden que al comprar zapatos altos, la mejor opción son las plataformas ya que la anchura de estas hace que no te cansen mucho.

As we mentioned on twitter, Saturday was Maria Jose's birthday and we celebrated by going out to a local bar. Since it was late afternoon, I decided to wear a cute and casual dress which I had found a few days ago at Pull & Bear. I loved it because it had stripes which are still very much in fashion these days. I added a small belt which accentuated the waist taking into consideration the ruffle in the dress. And, of course, I wanted to wear my brand new Jessica Simpson Prinnce shoes which, believe it or not, are super comfortable. Remember, when buying high heels, the best option are platforms which, thanks to their width, provide better support and result in a lot less pain on your feet.

Desde los años 90 los All Star Converse se han convertido en clásicos! Es uno de los pocos calzados que siempre estarán de moda! Nunca nos puede faltar en nuestro clóset. Cuando comenzaron a venderse eran más relacionados con todo lo “grunge” (o descuidado), ahora son un ícono de la moda por sí solos! Así que si no sabes cómo combinarlos, te daré un par de ideas!

Since the 90's converse All Stars became a classic. A footwear that is always a trend is not fashion but its always in! It’s a must have. When they first arrived at stores they where related to the Grunge Wave. Now they are a fashion icon by themselves, adapting to every look! El segundo día Mercedes Benz Fashion Week definitivamente fue el de LAS DISEÑADORAS: Rebecca Taylor, Cynthia Rowley, Nicolle Miller & Helen Yarmak. Cada una con su estilo pero con una característica en común: sus diseños son super femeninos.

Rebecca Taylor proponiendo piezas sueltas, con mucho movimiento, colores blanco, negro y azul marino. Cynthia Rowley apuesta por las telas brillantes como sedas, pero a la vez resaltando la silueta femenina, poniendole a cada uno de sus diseños colores que hacen verlos super divertidos si dejar de ser elegante. Nicolle Miller, inspirando un estilo relajado, comodo y urbano, con telas ralladas y de colores. The second day of Mercedes Benz Fashion Week was definitely the day of the FEMALE designers: Rebecca Taylor, Cynthia Rowley, Nicolle Miller & Helen Yarmak. Each with her own style but with one thing in common: their designs are very feminine.

Rebecca Taylor proposed fabrics with lots of movement, along with the colors white, black and blue marine. Cynthia Rowley chose bright fabrics such as silk, but highlighting the female form at the same time, applying colors to each of her designs that made them look fun, while keeping them elegant. Nicolle Miller inspired a relaxed, urban and comfortable style, mixing colors with stripes. Finally, Helen Yamarka, my favorite of the day, offered colored coats, knee-high skirts and, of course, a PERFECT colorblock.

La propuesta de BCGB: estampados tribales, cortes asimétricos, crepé, seda y chiffón. Y de los colores ni hablar:  colores vivos pero con un toque de misterio. 

BCGB's proposal: tribal prints, asymmetrical cuts, crepe, silk and chiffon. As for colors: vivid colors but with a touch of mystery.

Desde hace muchísimo tiempo me encanta este estilo de zapatos y ahora que están de vuelta no pude evitar comprarme unos, me parece que son súper chic. Los puedes usar para toda ocasión y siempre se ven bien. Es el estilo perfecto para agregarle un toque femenino a tu look. ¿Qué les parece esta nueva tendencia?

I have loved this shoe style for a long time and now that they’re back I couldn’t help myself and decided to buy them. I think they are super chic. You can use them for any occasion and they always look good. It’s the perfect style to add a feminine touch to your look. What do you guys think of this new trend?

GETTING READY FOR NEW YORK FASHION WEEK

  Estamos a sólo a un día de comenzar Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week NY, y para entrar en calor quise dedicar el post de éste miércoles para hablar un poquito de este gran evento.

Es considerado el evento más importante de la moda a nivel mundial. Dos veces por año (una en verano y otra en otoño) diseñadores Americanos muestran sus colecciones a todo el mundo. Sus inicios datan del año 1943, durante la Segunda Guerra Mundial, época en la cual miembros de la industria de la moda no podían viajar a París a ver los eventos de moda. A raíz de esto, una publicista llamada Eleanor Lambert, creó ”La Semana de la Prensa” (Press Week), precursora de “La Semana de la Moda de New York”, con un doble propósito: que los diseñadores americanos no se siguieran influenciando por los diseñadores franceses y darle a los editores de moda un vistazo de lo que los diseñadores americanos podían crear. En un principio se llevaba a cabo en diferentes localidades. Y después de 50 años “La Semana de la Moda” (Fashion Week) finalmente se estableció en New York, comenzando oficialmente en 1994 en Bryant Park luego de ser celebrada por muchos años en lofts, clubes y restaurantes. Entre los diseñadores más reconocidos  que muestran sus colecciones están: Michael Kors, Monique Lhullier,  Vera Wang, Tory Burch, J. Crew, Oscar de la Renta, Nanette Lepore y Marc Jacobs, entre otros.

Ya todos(as) estamos a la expectativa de las nuevas propuestas que nos presentarán los grandes diseñadores y que se darán cita a partir del próximo 8 de septiembre para presentar sus colecciones.

We are only one day away from the beginning of the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week NY, and to prepare I decided to dedicate this Wednesday’s post to focus on this mega event.

It’s considered the most important fashion event in the world. Twice per year (summer and fall) American designers display their collections to the world. Its origins date back to 1943, during World War II, when fashion insiders could not travel to Paris to attend any fashion shows. As a result, a publicist by the name of Eleanor Lambert created “Press Week”, the precursor of the New York Fashion Week, in order to feature exclusively American designers and show the world what they could create, moving away from the influence of French designers. At first, the event was held in several different places. But after 50 years, “Fashion Week” was finally established in New York, officially beginning in 1994 in Bryant Park, after being celebrated in lofts, clubs and restaurants for many years. Among the most recognized designers on the show are: Michael Kors, Monique Lhullier,  Vera Wang, Tory Burch, J. Crew, Oscar de la Renta, Nanette Lepore y Marc Jacobs.

We are all on the lookout for what these great designers have in store for us, starting on September 8^th.
 

SWEET, SHORT AND SIMPLE (THE 3 S)

Fuimos de visita a recorrer el centro histórico de Comayagua en Honduras y la verdad fue una experiencia fascinante. El calor, el sol y la brisa de los árboles obligaban un atuendo fresco y relajado. La combinación de colores de este vestido estilo camisero me permitió un día de turismo tranquilo y sin quemadas de sol. 

We went to visit Comayagua historic downtown in Honduras and it was a fascinating experience. The heat, the breeze and trees forced me to wear a fresh a relaxed outfit. I love this shirt dress color palette with this farm mode, it allowed me to have a great day of tourism without sun burns!

Estas fotos son del fin de semana pasado, fuimos a la playa al cumpleaños de una amiga, y aunque el día estaba opaco me animé a hacer la sesión de fotos cuando finalmente se asomó el sol. Muchas veces me gusta diseñar mi propia ropa. El vestidito de este post es una muestra y, aunque es sencillo, me encantaron los tonos brillantes de la tela. Amo los sombreros y este lo encontré hace unos meses en Capri. Espero les guste y que tengan una linda semana…..

Last weekend we went to the beach for a friend’s birthday and, even though it was a rather cloudy day, I decided to snap some pictures when the sun finally came out. I like to design a lot of my own outfits. The dress on this post is an example of this and, even though its fairly simple, I loved the bright tones of the fabric. I love hats and this one I found a few months ago in Capri. I hope you like it. Have a great week!

FASHION ICON: OLIVIA PALERMO

Al oír el nombre de esta newyorkina de 25 años solo puedo pensar en GLAMOUR!!  Estudió en la Escuela de Arte y Diseño Parsons en París. Olivia inició su debut en la escena social de New York cuando el fotógrafo de celebridades Patrick McMullan comenzó fotografiándola en varios de los eventos de la ciudad. Participó en el 2008 en la serie de MTV "The City". Nombrada  por la revista Us Weekly como una de las 25 Newyorkinas más elegantes del 2010, Olivia ha sido imagen de reconocidas marcas como MANGO y, actualmente,  de la marca española  de joyas Carrera y Carrera. Definitivamente es la chica "it" del momento. Me encanta su estilo y sabe cómo combinar sus prendas y lucir impecable, ya sea en un evento social o en la calle, logrando verse siempre super chic. 

When I hear the name of this 25 year-old New Yorker I can’t help but think on one thing: GLAMOUR!!! Olivia studied at the school for design Parsons Paris. She blasted her way onto the New York social scene when celebrity photographer Patrick McMullan began photographing her on different events throughout the city. Named one of the 25 most stylish New Yorkers of 2010 by Us Weekly magazine, Olivia has also been the image for recognized brands such as MANGO and, more recently, for the Spanish jewelry brand Carrera y Carrera.

She is definitely the “it” girl of the moment and I have to say I love her style. She really knows how to combine her clothing and look impeccable. Whether it’s for a social event, or just for going out for a walk, she always manages to look super chic.
