El pasado lunes en Londres se celebraron los BRITISH FASHION AWARDS, en el Hotel y Teatro The Savoy. Pudimos ver lo mejor de lo mejor de la industria de la moda nacional e internacional. Y en Our Favorite Style les tenemos nuestros looks favoritos de la premiación, así como la lista completa de ganadores. 

This past Monday the BRITISH FASHION AWARDS took place at The Savoy Theater in London. Present were the best of the best from the national and international fashion industry. And here in Our Favorite Style we give you some of our favorite looks from the ceremony, as well as a complete list of winners.

THANKSGIVING DINNER

¡Qué mejor forma de comenzar la temporada navideña que con brillo!

En mi país no es tradición celebrar el día de Acción de Gracias, pero ya desde hace muchos años atrás se ha convertido en la excusa perfecta para reunirnos con los amigos, y darle comienzo a la época más linda del año,  siendo la principal atracción de la noche el pavo que mi esposo cocina.

Y éste año no se me ocurrió llevar otra cosa mejor que lentejuelas. Como estaba haciendo un poco de frío me puse un suéter de Zara. Me gustó mucho como se veía amarrado a la cintura ya que, como es de esos que caen hasta la rodilla, no se veía tan bien así sin amarrarlo. Para complementar el look usé zapatos negros y cartera negra.

What a better way to start the holiday season than with some sparkle and shine!

In my country, traditionally, we don't celebrate Thanksgiving Day, but ever since a few years it has become the perfect excuse to get together with our friends and kick off the greatest part of the year.  And our guest of honor: the delicious turkey cooked by my husband.

This year I couldn't think of anything better to wear than sequins. Since it was a little cold, I decided to wear this sweater from Zara.  I especially loved how it looked tied around the waist, which is something I had to improvise since I thought a sweater so long wouldn't really look good on me. To complement the look I used black shoes and a black bag.

SORRENTO DAY 1

Un post chiquitito de mi primer día en Sorrento. El día que llegamos estaba un poco nublado, pero como ya había salido del hotel cuando eso pasó...me tuve que aguantar un poquito el frío.

Para el primer día aquí usé un vestidito de satin diseñado por mí, unos lentes oscuros Ray Ban y por supuesto mi cartera Longchamp.

A small post dedicated to my first day in Sorrento. The day we arrived it was a bit cloudy, but since we had already left the hotel when it happened, I had no choice but to endure the cold.

On this day I wore a little satin dress designed by me, Ray-Ban sunglasses and, of course, my Longchamp bag.

Primero es de vital importancia estar con la familia y nuestros seres queridos, después es de decir gracias por la vida, por lo que somos y por lo que tenemos. Después todo gira alrededor de la mesa, así que no olvides vestir algo lo suficientemente cómodo para disfrutar el día pero que no pierdas este estilo que te hace tan tú! 

FALL- WINTER TREND ALERT: CHUNKY SWEATER

Un chunky sweater es un must have no solo para el otoño-invierno de este año, sino que, a mi criterio, es un must have de TODOS los otoños-inviernos. Me encanta como proyecta un look sumamente relajado que no solo nos cubre del frío sino que a la vez nos hace lucir muy chic.

La mejor manera de llevar un chunky sweater es balancear la parte de arriba (que es el sweater) con la de abajo. Es decir, al ser este tipo de suéteres flojos por naturaleza, la parte de abajo, osea tus pantalones, jeans, faldas o con lo que sea que lo vas a usar, que sea más pegado a tu cuerpo, y de esta forma lograremos un look effortless y estilizado a la vez.

Te damos unos ejemplos de cómo las celebridades lo usan, asi como seis ideas que en Our Favorite Style te proponemos para que comiences a inspirarte al usar un chunky sweater.

A chunky sweater is a must have, not only for this year's fall-winter season, but also, in my opinion, for ALL fall-winter seasons.  I love how it projects a very relaxed look which not only covers us from the cold, but at the same time, makes us look very chic.

The best way to wear a chunky sweater is to balance the top (which is the sweater itself) with the bottom.  Since these type of sweaters are loose and baggy by nature, the bottom part of the outfit (your pants, jeans, skirts, or whatever you're gonna use) should be a tighter fit in order to achieve an effortless and yet stylish look.

Below are a few examples of how celebrities wear them, as well as a few ideas we at Our Favorite Style propose in order to inspire you to wear a chunky sweater.

LAST DAY @ FLORENCE!!!

Ultimo día en esta ciudad maravillosa. Lo aprovechamos para relajarnos, conocer lugares que nos hacían falta y prepararar nuevamente maletas para nuestra próxima parada.....  SORRENTO!

En cuanto a mi outfit, escogí, como ya lo habia venido haciendo en el viaje, algo súper cómodo. Un "short" de Bershka y una camisa "hot pink" de Zara.  He hablado de "shorts" de Breshka porque en realidad es un jeans!

Tenía ya tiempos sin usarlo porque no me convencía cómo me quedaba y se me ocurrió llevarlo al sastre y convertirlo en short.

Our last day in this wonderful city. We took time to relax, visit a few other places we had missed, and prepared our bags for our next stop.....SORRENTO!

As for my outfit, I chose, as I had been doing the entire trip, something comfortable. Bershka "shorts" and a hot pink Zara shirt.  These "shorts" were actually one of my jeans shortly before this. 

I hadn't used these jeans for quite some time because I wasn't really convinced of how they looked on me.  So, it occurred to me, instead of letting them go to waste, I took them to a tailor and turned the pants into shorts.

THE INVISIBLE FASHION ACCESSORY - OUR FAVORITE STYLE IN FRAGANCES

Como todos sabemos hay olores que nos inspiran y otros que nos traen recuerdos. A veces siento fragancias que al olerlas cierro los ojos y recuerdo aquel lugar, aquella persona, aquel momento. Bueno chicas, no olviden que oler es importante y sobre todo reflejar la personalidad. Según el marketing, los perfumes siguen reglas y como nosotras, ellos también tienen su propia personalidad, carácter, forma. Sea como sea, lo más importante tiene que ver con química. Antes de comprar un perfume póntelo en la piel y mira lo que a tí te evoca.

Los consejos son: 

1.   Un perfume te hace sentir más segura y mejor contigo misma.
2.   Cambia de perfume periódicamente y, si puedes, usa diferentes a la vez; haz cambios radicales. 
3.   Refuerza tu personalidad, es el único accesorio de moda invisible.

As we all know there are some smells that make us feel inspired and some others that remind us something. Sometimes I feel a certain smell that makes me close my eyes and it reminds me of a place, a person or a moment. Well girls, do not forget: “smelling is important” and over all, to reflect your personality. In accordance with marketing, perfumes follow rules and like us, they also have their own personality, type and shape. Whichever way you look at it, the most important thing is chemistry. Before you buy a perfume, try it on your own skin and see what it makes you feel.

Our advices are:

1. A perfume makes you feel secure and better with yourself.
2. Change perfumes periodically and, if you can, keep a lot of perfumes, do drastic changes.
3. Try to reinvent your personality. It's the only invisible fashion accessory!

MEDIEVAL: AROUND FLORENCE DAY 2

En el segundo día en Florencia tomamos un Tour por varios pueblitos medievales que quedaban alrededor de Florencia! Quedamos fascinados. El primero fue San Gimignano donde nos encantaron sus calles, torres y plazas. Al entrar por eso de las banderitas sólo me acuerda a la escena de New Moon (de la saga de Twilight) , en la que Bella va corriendo en busca de Edward para que no saliera al sol y la gente viera que era vampiro jajajajaja. Yo moría de ganas por ir al pueblito donde filmaron esa escena (se llama Montepulciano aunque en el libro decían que era Volterra), pero nuestro tour no incluía pasar por ahí aunque si quedaba bien cerca.

Luego fuimos a un viñedo en el que probamos mucho vinito de la región de Chianti. Después a Siena, otro lugar que me encantó, a pesar que fuimos interrumpidos por una fuerte lluvia. Finalmente, terminamos en un pequeñísimo pueblo amurallado medieval llamado Monteriggioni en el que nos encontramos a la segunda novia del viaje!

En esta ocasión usé un vestido de Zara de la temporada pasada, bailarinas Tory Burch para ir cómoda sin perder el estilo, y cartera Longchamp.

On our second day in Florence we took an all-day tour through several medieval towns in the vicinity of Florence. We were fascinated.  The first town we visited was San Gimignano where we were dazzled by their little streets, large towers and great plazas.  Upon entering seeing all these flags reminded me of a scene in New Moon (from the Twiligth saga) where Bella is running looking for Edward trying to prevent him from coming out to the sun and revealing he was indeed a vampire. I really wanted to visited the actual town where they filmed that scene (which was Montepulciano, even though they said it was called Volterra), but our tour didn't include this place, even it was nearby.

Afterwards we went for a wine taste in a small local vineyard in the region of Chianti, where I have to say, we tasted a LOT of wine.  We continued on to Siena, another place I loved, even though we were trapped for a while by a huge rainstorm. We ended our tour in a tiny medieval town called Monteriggioni, where we found the second bride of the trip! 

On this day I wore a Zara dress from last season, Tory Burch flats to ensure I could walk comfortably without losing style, and a Longchamp bag. 

MILITARY GREEN AT FIRENZE DAY 1

Más sobre mis honeymoon outfits. Este fue el que usé el primer día en Florencia, una ciudad PRECIOSA, llenísima de cultura, paisajes espectaculares y comida deliciosísima. Creo que fuimos a Italia en el tiempo perfecto, no había ni calor feo, ni frío extremo.  Un dato curioso: en cada lugar al que íbamos nos encontrabamos a una noviaaaaa jajajaja!  La última foto es la que nos encontramos en Florencia. En los próximos posts van a ver a las otras jajajaja.
El primer día lo usamos para caminar por la ciudad, razón por la que quise andar súper cómoda : un vestido tipo blusa de color verde militar, cartera "cross body" y  unos flats! Todo el viaje: CERO tacones =).

Hay muchísimos más outfits de todo el viaje que quiero compartir con ustedes y para no terminar de enseñárselos hasta el otro año, mañana les comparto el del día dos =).

More about my honeymoon outfits... This is what I wore on my first day in Florence, a city that is really BEAUTIFUL, full of culture, incredible landscapes and delicious food.  I believe we visited Italy in just the right time since it wasn't too hot or too cold. A curious fact: every place we visited, we ran into a bride! The last photo is the bride we found in Florence. On future posts you will see the rest... they were everywhere!!! =)

On our first day in Florence we decided to walk around he city, which is why I had to wear something comfortable: a military green blouse-type dress, cross body bag and flats! On this trip: ZERO heels =)

There are a lot more outfits from this trip that I want to share with you, and to avoid dragging it on too much, tomorrow we'll take a look at day two =)

JUICY COUTURE SPRING 2012 COLLECTION LOOKBOOK

Al pensar en ropa para primavera siempre pienso en prendas con muchos colores,  muy femeninas y faldas con movimiento.  Aunque sé que en muchos países el clima se pone cada vez mas frío, siempre es bueno empezar a ver qué es lo que nos traerán las próximas temporadas, así, poco a poco, y sin tener que gastar de un solo, vamos preparando nuestro clóset. Es por eso que quería compartir con tod@s el Lookbook de la colección de Juicy Couture Spring 2012  y que para mí representa perfectamente el estilo primaveral.  Proponiendo diseños súper chic llenos de color y brillo, rayas, lentes y bolsos grandes, perfectos para proyectar un efortless look en la primavera.

Tal como lo dijo su nuevo director creativo LeAnn Nealz en la reciente presentación en New York de la colección,  "La colección se siente fresca, joven, actualizada y sobre todo, moderna "

When I think of spring clothing I always think on garments with lots of colors, very feminine and skirts with a lot of movement. Even though I know that in many countries the climate is getting colder each time,  it's always good to begin thinking of what upcoming seasons might bring. This way we can prepare our closet without having to spend all at once. This is the reason why I wanted to share with all of you the Juicy Couture's 2012 collection in Lookbook which for me perfectly represents spring style.  Here you will see super chic designs full of color and brightness, stripes, over-sized bags and sunglasses, perfect for projecting an effortless spring look.


Just like LeAnn Nealz, the new creative director, said in a recent New York presentation:
"The collection feels fresh, young, updated, and most of all, modern."

WEDDING WEEKEND

On Saturday we attended the wedding of two of our friends: Mercedes and Francesco. We decided to take the opportunity to have an improvised photo shoot of our outfits. I (Raque) was wearing a backless dress designed by me.  It had chiffon and sequins on the top and was inspired on La Femme dress.  Purple is not really one of my favorite colors but, since the fabric for the sequins that I loved was of purple, I decided to give it a chance and it turned out great!

As for Maria Jose's outfit, it was a simple maxi dress made of a silk-type of fabric with bright colors and flower print.  The hair, super natural to keep in tone with the dress.

As for accesories, they were as simple as possible taking into consideration that the dresses were already bright enough and we wanted to keep the focus on the dresses.

El sábado fue la boda de dos grandes amigos: Mercedes y Francesco, y aprovechamos la ocasión para hacer rapidito una sesión de fotos de nuestros outfits. Yo (Raquel) llevo un vestido backless diseñado por mí de chiffon con lentejuelas en la parte de arriba e inspirado en un vestido de La Femme. El morado no es uno de mis colores favoritos pero, como la tela para las lentejuelas que me gustó era morada, decidí darle una oportunidad y el resultado me gusto muchísimo.

En cuanto al outfit de Maria José, era un maxi dress sencillo de tela tipo seda y de colores vivos con estampados de flores. El pelo, como el outfit lo ameritaba, super natural. 

En cuanto a accesorios: lo más simple posible por el hecho de que los vestidos eran lo suficientemente llamativos y tenían que ser los protagonistas.

LEATHER LEGINGS: 10 WAYS TO WEAR IT

 

On the previous post: FALL- WINTER 2011 TREND ALERT: LEATHER PIECES, we had shared a few ideas of how celebrities use leather leggings. Without a doubt, they've become my best friends this season. It's incredible how many different ways they can be used.  They combine with almost anything and, best of all, they're very comfortable.  I like them because they can turn a classic outfit into something totally different.  Here are a few more ideas to hopefully encourage you to try them out.

STRIPES FROM VENEZIA

Italy is, without a doubt, one of my favorite places, and for our honeymoon we didn't even think twice about going back.  The only city we had previously visited was Rome.  On this occasion, our first stop was VENICE, a spectacular and romantic place! We were there for two days and this is the outfit I wore for the last day.  Believe me, I didn't choose the black and white stripes on purpose, it was pure coincidence: Striped long-sleeved shirt from Zara, "shorts" from Bershka and Steve Madden flats!

Italia es sin duda uno de mis lugares favoritos y para la luna de miel no dudamos en regresar ya que solo habiamos conocido anteriormente Roma! Nuestra primera parada fue VENECIA, un lugar espectacular y romántico. Estuvimos ahí por dos días y este es el outfit que usé para el segundo y creanme que no me vestí a rayas por estar en Venecia, fue pura coincidencia: Camisa manga larga rayada de Zara, "shorts" de Bershka y bailarinas Steve Madden!

FALL - WINTER TREND ALERT: FLARED JEANS

I'm not going to deny it,  I love skinny jeans. But lately, skinny flared jeans are slowly growing on me.  They remind me of that great 70's style. They are super comfortable and, best of all, the fit well on practically any type of body. They're tight on the top and in an "A" shape in the bottom which results in accentuating your body's curves and they make you look taller and slimmer.

To create the desired effect, here are a few tips:

• ALWAYS use these jeans with HEELS OR PLATAFORMAS,  shoes. This is 50% of the key to looking taller and slimmer.  If you use flats, besides looking a bit messy in my opinion, it'll make the lower part of the jeans look bulky which will result in making you look wider. 
• As for length: they must end approximately an inch off the floor.
• If you want to "dress up" these jeans, use them with a silk shirt or add a blazer.
• A wide belt (preferably a brown tone) is a perfect complement to cause that "flared effect".
• And for those of you who are more daring, don't hesitate to try a colored flared jeans. The key is to combine it with a clear-colored top or blouse.

No lo voy a negar, los skinny jeans me encantan, pero los skinny flared jeans, poco a poco se están ganando mi gusto. Me recuerdan muchísimo al estilo de los 70's.  Son súper cómodos y lo mejor de todo es que quedan bien en cualquier tipo de cuerpo ya que, al ser súper pegados de arriba y en línea "a" de abajo, acentúan las curvas de tu cuerpo y hacen verte más alta y más delgada.

Para que produzcan el efecto que queremos les dejo algunos tips:

• Usa SIEMPRE estos jeans con TACONES O PLATAFORMAS. Esto es el 50% de la clave para hacerte ver más alta y delgada. Si los usamos con flats, aparte que a mi criterio se ve desordenado, hará lucir la parte de abajo del jeans abultada y por ende todo en tí se verá más ancho.
• En cuanto al largo: debe de quedar aproximadamente a una pulgada de el suelo.
• Si quieres "vestir" un poco estos jeans, úsalos con una camisa de seda o agregales un blazer. 
• Un cincho ancho (de preferencia en tonos tierra), son un complemento perfecto para causar el "flared effect".
• Y para las más atrevidas, no duden en intentar con un flared jeans de colores. El consejo para los de color es usar un top o blusa de un color claro.

Lately we have been hearing a bit about the use of asymmetry in fashion, not as an accessory, but as a touch of something different, characterizing the entire outfit.

So here are some ideas of shapes shared from famous designers such as Jean Paul Gaultier and y A.F. Vandevorst shown during runway spring 2012.

So we should be aware, maybe it's time to overlap or miss a button.

Últimamente se ha venido hablando del uso de la asimetría en la moda, no como un accesorio sino como un toque diferente que caracteriza al atuendo por completo.

Pues les damos ideas de las formas que diseñadores de renombre como Jean Paul Gaultier y A.F. Vandevorst mostraron en la pasarela de la temporada primavera 2012.

Así que hay que estar pendientes; tal vez es hora de traslapar o fallar en algún botón! 

 

QUICK POST: ZARA NOVEMBER LOOKBOOK

Unfortunately (or not!) I always fall for the charms of Zara and I wanted to share with you (if you haven't seen it yet) this quick post before I go to sleep: the Zara November LookBook. I love it and it's always an inspiration for me. This time there are combiations of prints, cuts and colors. Any thoughts? Sound off below....

Lastimosamente siempre caigo ante los encantos de Zara y quería compartir con ustedes (por si no lo han visto) un post rapidito antes de irme a dormir: el LookBook de Noviembre de Zara. Siempre me encanta y me inspira muchísimo. Esta vez se combinan estampados, cortes y colores.  ¿Qué les parece?

MY LIFE IN BLUE

 

Last week I had a busy week with plenty of social events.  One of them was my brother's birthday which he wanted to celebrate big time, even though it was a weekday. For the occasion I decided to wear this sequin dress designed by me. When trying to come up with a design for this dress I wanted to do something simple and very feminine. That's why I made it backless.  I chose a fun, bright color and I think the design is very sexy: I  LOVE backless dresses!!!! In contrast with the bright color sequins I combined the dress with simple accesories: pearl earrings and a watch.  When deciding on what shoes to wear I thought these would add too much saturation to an already very bright outfit, but once I tried them on I loved how the looked.  What do you think?

La semana pasada estuve llenísima de compromisos, uno de ellos el cumpleaños de mi hermano, que aunque fue en día de semana, quiso celebrarlo en grande. Para la ocasión decidí usar este vestido de lentejuelas diseñado por mí.  Al pensar en como sería el diseño de el vestido quise hacer algo muy sencillo pero a la vez muy femenino. Es por eso que le agregué el escote en la espalda. Me parece que el color es súper divertido y el diseño super sexy: AMO los escotes en la espalda!!! Como el vestido de por sí era super llamativo, mantuve los accesorios lo más simple posible, llevando unos aritos de perlitas y un reloj, nada más. Al pensar en los zapatos creí que los azules iban a saturar más el color pero al probármelos me encantó!  ¿Ustedes que opinan?
